 kgf chapter 1 review in English about a week ago I checked out the epic Indian film rr and asked for some suggestions on other films to check out well I got a ton of different recommendations so I picked one I picked kgf chapter one because it was available on amazon prime within the united states so is this something that you should give a watch in the 1970s.

 a gangster goes undercover as a slave to assassinate the owner of a notorious gold mine so I started watching the Hindi version but there was something odd with the audio so I just started over and then I was watching the Kanata I think that's how you pronounce.

 it well that version and it was a much better viewing experience now this takes place for several years with the majority of it happening in the late 70s following our main protagonist named rocky there are also a bunch of moments sprinkled throughout that are flashbacks to when rocky was a kid giving us just a ton of insight into what made him into the man that.

 we see in the present the action and fights are a lot of fun with some really great choreography there are many times where rocky takes on multiple groups of people and it's like he's got the swagger of a rock star combined with the instincts and awareness of a superhero and this makes some of the fights absolutely crazy with a bit of wild brutality I mean we're talking sled hammers.

 crazy shaped axes and some wicked swords and while a lot of it is stylized with a ton of slow-mo it doesn't take away from the savagery of the fights they were a lot of fun to watch and there's even a sort of tony Montana moment that is flashy and dramatic now I enjoyed how the story is told through an interview building with massive flashbacks now.

while I wasn't fully on board with the reporter who's hearing the story told to her it's still an enjoyable way to have the narrative unfold for us and there's an entertaining element within the tv interview that illustrates just how those listening to the story are becoming so invested that they can't wait to hear more now I wish I was feeling the exact same level of excitement as one of the characters.

 but it was still enjoyable to watch play out I think one of the strong points in this is the amount of background and development that we get on rocky to show how his early life helped to shape his current motivations and these are interwoven throughout the story to accentuate.

 portions as they become pertinent so when they're inserted they feel like natural story beats and they fit well the coloring of this film is enjoyable, especially how some will become much more desaturated with them just a lot of grays but then there are also a lot of oranges and reds that permeate.

 scenes so that either creates sometimes a sense of dread and fear and then other times just brings a warmth to the sequence as might be expected there is a music video portion to this it's got ultra-quick cuts and tons of flashing lights but also this showy sensuality and while it did feel a little out of place.

 the dancing was fun and the lyrics felt semi-self-aware giving more story context that built out the narrative the cinematography is pretty great looking and while sometimes the editing is choppy and abrupt there was a really well-executed scene where these people need to smuggle

 something into this highly secure area but everything is being searched the creativity not only of the way that the items are brought in but also how the film shows how they're assembled I mean it just adds a ton of urgent excitement to the scene builds with tension and in this instance I mean the quick cuts actually accentuate and enhance the sequence rather than detract now sometimes.

 during this story, there's an air surrounding rocky that makes it feel like he's kaiser soze I mean it's fun to see people panic when they hear of him just being someplace even if at first glance it doesn't appear like rocky could do any damage to anyone given his predicament.

 I mean it's the fear that his name and his presence bring that is visible on some of the character's faces now despite everything that I do enjoy about this several areas felt short for me now I really enjoyed the action, especially with how it was stylized but some of the action it's cut short or it's edited with either cutaways or flashes to black I mean it's a weird style choice and it even makes some of the narrative difficult to follow at times the fade to blacks within a ton of the scenes.

 I mean it really began to wear on me and these had a bit of a negative impact because they just felt very trailer-ish and it made it much less cinematic I mean minor use of these wouldn't have bothered me as much but they felt like they become more of a crutch than a storytelling technique and think about when you watch a trailer and the action is ramping up but because.

 they don't want to show everything they piece it out and then they use black and the soundtrack to build excitement and that's what's happening here but this isn't a trailer it's a movie it's almost like the editing is trying to force an emotion or feel on us but the scenes are already exciting so we don't need to be manipulated with a technique to arrive at the exact same.

 the response we already have now is sometimes rocky as an adult I think he was hard to sympathize with he's often brooding which I mean does feel natural with his upbringing and his background but he's also standoffish which keeps him at his arm's length from us for a lot of the movie I mean this didn't make me rude against him just made him feel like a stranger or maybe disconnected.

 plus when that was mixed with that rockstar persona it gives this hottie air to him which wasn't always something that I gravitated towards throughout the story some of the scenes became a bit repetitive where portions felt like they were replayed a few times throughout the film now maybe they weren't shot for shot repeats but certain beats felt like they were super similar to other sequences making.

 those just a bit tired probably the biggest downside to this movie is that it truly is the first chapter the film ends right after one climax but another is growing and then the film ends I mean while it's not exactly a cliffhanger ending it's certainly incomplete now many people have recommended me to watch of chapter 2 but as of the date of this recording it's not available anywhere.

 to watch in us now I know that it just landed on amazon prime this weekend in India but in the u.s it's still not available even for video on demand so hopefully, soon it will become available here so I can get the conclusion to this story while I enjoyed the first chapter of kgf it didn't bring me as much enjoyment as it evidently did from everyone that had recommended.

 to me this isn't a bad movie by any means but it just didn't resonate as much there's a lot to like in this with the building story reinforced by the flashbacks of rocky's early life there is also some very exciting action with awesome choreography and while there's a ton of slow-mo that's utilized it does enhance many of the action sequences creating a very stylized look and execution to it all some of the editing.

 choices were less than appealing to me, especially with the constant fades to black in action moments as well as just many of the quick cuts that led to a more frenetic feeling, and while the adult version of rocky was sometimes hard to sympathize with I really enjoyed his kaiser Soze-Esque mystique which that then created this air of fear and dread to those he met.

 who was against him I'm looking forward to seeing how this story concludes and really hope that chapter 2 becomes available to us very soon there's no sex or nudity some profanity and a ton of violence I give chapter one three and a half out of five couches so.

kgf chapter 1 review in English hello people I am Jabby Kauai joined by a char Kirk we're discussing kgf starring ash it's written and directed by Prashanth Neel and it also stars Trinity Shetty and Ramya Krishna we got to watch this movie just a few hours ago this edit is going to be looser in the interest of getting out.

 the review sooner and so for those of you who are used to our fast-paced editing, I apologize in advance we're gonna start off with IMDB here it says a period drama narrates the 17 hundred-year-old histories of oppressed waging wars against their oppressors said in the early 80s kg up the first chapter of centers the protagonist.

 who leads a battle against the oppressors, I didn't really get all of that information from the movie, yeah I certainly didn't get the 17 hundred-year-old history pot by the early eighties bit I was like Oh Lord with right so I want to start off with talking about the things I liked and then, later on, I'll get into things that I didn't like it quite as much so first and foremost.

 I just got to say that yes is incredible he has a charisma about him that just radiates on On the screen he does a really good job of being that hero archetype in the film he's almost like a Superman character he's like a superhero in a way with the way the film portrays said he who's kicking ass and taking names you bought him as that dude yeah thanks to his acting.

 thanks to the way the film was made he just did a great job yeah he sold it right the beard and the hair were very stylistic and cool I just liked I liked his movement I liked how he switched between being the cool badass and then being that guy.

 who's like a romantic lead with you know trying to pursue this girl and then just you know did the way he handled the dialogue I thought it was all really cool here to Mister mysteriousness about him the way he showed empathy for certain characters in the film I believed him you know there wasn't a single moment in the movie.

 where I didn't buy what he was doing yeah now that's again a combination of both his ability as an actor and the director working with him to achieve that performance the other actors in the film I thought all did great in supporting him and supporting him as you know the lead-in you know whether the villains whether they were the bystanders, you know collateral damage in the film.

 I thought that the cast was just pretty good you know yeah there wasn't any there wasn't a single actor where I was like oh but again we don't speak the language so I was running into this with the zero reviews the other day.

 where I was praising Anushka Sharma and people were like no I still stand by my statement but this is coming from someone who doesn't speak an Indian language that being said I appreciated the acting in the film this story itself I thought was pretty interesting just like the divine for power thing it's almost like a Greek play or something.

 very much is like a Greek tragedy our protagonist comes from tragedy or any sort of superhero origin story it seems like they always have something horrible happen to them in a way, this almost reminds me of a modern-day baahubali yes I know that Madhubala is more of an exactly yeah is it it's almost more like mythology and how epic.

 it is and the kind of fantasy elements that are brought in there and you sort of seeing that here like I said you know Josh josh is more like a superhero in this movie even though he doesn't work in the baahubali aspects is like the mom you know.

 he loses he doesn't hit his mom right like she dies when he's very young right she really inspires his life and I really loved that relationship in the movie actually because it's the driving force and once again like in Aquaman where it was a lot about family.

 I loved how they tied in this whole mother-son relationship aspect because once again it's something everyone can hook into I think most people can yeah most people have mothers right most both moms I care about them exactly so it's something that's readily identifiable and is emotional so once you know you just get hooked in emotionally well away you go.

 I think they did a good job of establishing that relationship with him and his mom and how important she was to him and like the impact that she had on his life throughout the film, they showed these little moments where she endows him with philosophical ideas and virtues that he carries with him for the rest of his life and it also gives.

 him a reason to put women on an at least mom's on a higher on a pedestal he says in the film like they're stronger than soldiers yeah and I thought that was a very interesting way to you know to put it I liked the idea again of these people vying for power and yes being kind of in the middle of all this and doing his fight to basically fulfill the promise to his mother and what ends up.

 happening along the way this other kind of job that he ends up taking on as a result of his an adventure like now he becomes a man of the people right which reminds me of a few other South Indian films I've seen where you have this gangster who becomes how did you phrase it in the car ride Oh a gangster with a heart of gold right exactly.

 I think that's a great way to phrase it because we've seen that before with Raja and Kahn films and so that's ROS sort of reminded of and I actually dig it I thought that it organically showed how he starts out you know as this innocent kid ends up becoming someone on the streets who are fighting for power and then becomes a man of the people like.

 I could see that arc it was very nicely done the music was another thing I really really appreciated in the movie the soundtrack like the score throughout the film was just awesome this is a score that I would actually be interested in purchasing and listening to that's.

 how much I enjoyed it reminded me of Harry Gregson-Williams or something like that Harry Kirsan Ilyumzhinov the middle gear selling video games and he did several big picture movies even the first song I don't remember the other lyrical songs as much.

 I remember liking the item number girl woman excuse me but I don't remember if I liked the song or not it didn't leave a strong impression on me I think I liked all of the soundtrack songs like when I heard them.

 I was like oh they're nice they tell the story to wait for help move it along I remember liking it at least the first one and one more possibly the part where I take issue with the film and I don't know how much influenced Prashanth Neil had on this is the editing I felt like did a disservice to the movie for me I know that people in the theater was super happy like people were coming out of the theater being like oh it was amazing and so I know that there is probably some sort of culture.

 limitation here or language barrier thing that's kind of in the way of my enjoyment because stylistically I really dig the movie for the most part and I love the shots like the DOP the director of photography did a fantastic job like every shot was just beautiful.

 the framing aesthetically I was like wow like even though it's a lot of dark colors like very gray and black and sepia, yeah I felt muted even though it's muted it just had this cool contrast and his pop to it and the framing I really really appreciated the framing in the film and I was like okay I just wish I could appreciate it.

 it's a little bit longer but before it jumps to the next thing, yeah you know for being a three-hour film it felt like a three-hour movie trailer because of just in terms of the editing style like it kept cutting every second, and then there was a lot of going to black over and over again and particularly in the last 20 minutes of the movie.

 I was like okay just let me appreciate what's happening here I feel like this could have been two movies so yeah I'm like this literally could have been four films the way that this is being done it would have been like four to our movies and I would be down to watch all four of them if it was done just a little bit slower paced so I can appreciate it.

 what's going on I still think you can accomplish all the things that Prashanth Anil was trying to accomplish with this movie in terms of his epic nature and the style the stylized fighting and the story I think all of that can still be accomplished and just let the editing breathe a little bit more almost the start of the movie every two seconds it's cutting and I was like gosh is this yeah, this is it the whole time and so it's like.

 I can't blink I think At the beginning with his background stuff, I appreciated that the movie did move at a clip because then we get to the heart of the story, yes you know in the way I did appreciate that it moved fast but then when you get to the meat and bones of the story you kind of want it to linger just a little bit longer so you get a chance to appreciate it.

 everything that's going on and a moment to breathe and catch up with all the different characters are coming into play, yeah I mean the style in terms of the editing style it almost reminds me of a Kevin Hart stand-up like his more recent standup because like.

 if you watch his earlier stand-up it's a nice pace and you and breathe and you get to laugh with him whereas in his later stand-up it feels like he's just it's a race to the end of the movie, it's just like it's not giving you a chance to even appreciate a single shot because it's just trying to get to the credits as fast as possible over three hours and so.

 when I said like the beginning its fast pace and it's and it was alarming for me I didn't mean the very opening where I would late you're talking about cuz I agree with you it is kind of going through at a clip through the narrative explanation at the top that's fine but then when the movie gets going it was still moving at that same pace.

 I was like oh my gosh like I can't keep up with this and then the fight scenes were where it was really apparent just how aggressively fast the editing was and I was like I can't I can't appreciate anything happening right now cuz.

 it's moving so fast like there are shots on-screen for two frames, yeah and it moves on to the next shot and I'm like oh man this is that in that regard it was very disappointing for me because I wanted to be able to appreciate the shots more wanted to be able to appreciate the action or everything happening like there was one shot.

 I recall when he's in the truck and I don't think he knows where he is and the camera starts out on him and backs up and you see all the people in the truck and I think he's trying to look out that shot lasted a little bit I'm like yeah more of that please give me more of those shots so I can appreciate what's going on and maybe dial back.

 the stylization a little bit more so I can appreciate it more so you can appreciate what's happening and deal with that drama with the characters right I did appreciate that they chose to tell the story in this kind of like I guess what would you say like nonlinear yeah with the narrator yes I liked that almost like.

 when sis bride exactly does remind me of the princess bride in that regard cuz every now and then you'd come back to where they're talking and then he's like oh wait did I skip ahead oh and let me just go back and so I think it.

 was cool I think I think this director I mean I could be wrong but I do think he appreciates certain American films and certain American directors because or not even just American but just like things that are not from India because there were definite references to Bruce Lee and specifically there was a reference to Enter the Dragon.

 which is an American film there's a scene where Ohara's image of the dragon is losing to Bruce Lee so he clashes to beer bottles together to try to fight Bruce Lee and Bruce Lee just demolishes him that's it was straight from the end of the Dragon and even the style like I did appreciate.

 what he liked about using the doodoo to brush his hair back like that whole was very like just slick like he was just that was badass. Still, all of it felt like a Bruce Lee scene where he's kind of like he's a little bit drunk yeah yeah and I mean there was no there's no Bruce Lee fight scene where he's a little bit drunk but there's a Jean Claude Van Damme movie.

 where he's a little bit drunk does it there's a Jackie Chan film called drunken master with a little bit drunken fighting people but it felt closer to Jean Claude Van Damme because no one can touch like if you go back and watch the Jean-Claude Van Damme movies from the 80s.

 no one can touch him like he's just he's that badass the only person who's able to beat him up to his Dolph Lundgren, I appreciate the nods that the director was doing again I appreciate just the framing of the style in terms of just like how it was shot yeah.

 I appreciate the music I appreciate how badass yeah she was so because of how the editing was I had a hard time keeping up with some of the stories so much that I had to have a conversation with Achara in the car going okay so I think this is what happened and we like literally went through like.

 the whole film so that I made sure that I understood what was going on yeah and I really appreciate the setup of the story like I did I just dig the premise I dig the setting I did what they're trying to do here uh-uh it's just the editing really hindered my ability to fully appreciate this film and so because it is peated my abilities so much that.

 I have to go with like a three and a half out of five for this that is exactly my rating yeah yeah I would have given it like a four and a half otherwise because I think that this has a lot going for it the editing is just like it.

 made it such a difficult experience for me that I mean I wish I would I was enjoying it like the people around me but I just wasn't and that's just me being straight with you guys I thought it was a good movie.

 I enjoyed it I thought Josh was great and it was beautiful but there were some problems yes right it's impossible to fully state a score on this film without watching both of them but I have a feeling the second one is going to be edited similarly.

 unless they go totally Kill Bill Vol to on this where it feels like a different movie in terms of this the pacing of me and the style I suspect that the editing cells gonna be the same in part two so that's still gonna be a problem for me in Chapter two.

 but you know as far as the story goes I'm hoping that there's a lot more to be discovered here and it's very justified why there's a chapter two so I'm looking forward to it you guys let us know your thoughts on the comments below.

 it was this kind of balance between something dramatic and grounded and having a taste a sampling of that stylized action where I see her it's very clear that that action is a very prominent part of the film but it's both at the same time because it's backdropped the story the setting of the story is this epic political this war thing is happening you know between.

 the US and Russia and how that's affecting India India's in the what do you want to call it the fall out there indirectly being affected by this because it's the price of gold India have gold so our people are gonna get really greedy and want to get their hands on all the gold it's interesting because.

 it's illustrating to you how great the first thing that happens when times are desperate it's the first thing that happens when people see opportunities they seize and then get very greedy about it and they don't care.

 who they're harming who they're stepping on to achieve that greed you see where this guy comes from right away where she's like you need to become rich and powerful, yeah and he's receiving this information at a very impressionable age so it's going to have the most profound effects possible where it doesn't matter.

 what it takes he is going to accomplish this mission while he's being this character who's very aggressive it seems like there's a side of him that wants to help people and protect people at the same time I'm a little bit confused as to which one it is because he's an antihero yeah he's also a hero I can't tell if he's just trying to get to the top of the pyramid or if he's trying to get to the top of the pyramid and help people at the same time.

 it's a little bit confusing yeah so I believe this movie is the first part of at least two or more movies right I'm assuming that it's gonna chronicle the rise and possibly the fall of this hero or anti and watching it a second time.

 I was like okay is there some sort of thing in the storyline where they're kind of mixing up the timelines because did he start out as a gang boss and then ended up having to work in the gold mines or did he come from the gold mines and become this powerful person outside of it I don't know that those are mutually exclusive.

 it seems like he was kind of born and bred in the streets right yeah yeah and so you do what you have to do to get by like just because you've got a job doesn't mean you're not a gangster I was just wondering like is it because of the gold mine thing that.

 he kind of rises up or is it that he ends up there and then has to battle his way out and then in doing so it becomes a people's hero you could be everything that's confusing is like I'm not exactly sure but it's definitely got my attention yeah and one of the things.

 I appreciate The music in this trailer it's by Ravi bus roar the music labels t-series I don't know if there are like songs in the movie or if t-series represents Robbie bus roar but I like the music it sounds like a better version of what you hear in the Marvel films because the Marvel films don't really have a distinct sound except for the Avengers theme.

 he's almost like a Jesse James where even if he's an outlaw these kids are looking up to him The whole Scarface aspect of it leads me to think he might just get shot to death in the end, I mean Jesse James you know got shot me in as well well he goes in the room and they all have Gunn and he's like I have one right I mean he's going in there with automatics like.

 cool like this is just a very cool presentation I don't mind the ramping at all where it shifts from fast to slow motion it's done in a very tasteful way from what I can tell I'm hoping that the amount that they're giving you here is accurately representative of what you're gonna get.

 when you see the film and it's not gonna just be super extreme to the point that you feel overbearing I'm really liking what I'm seeing so far and it's making me very excited and looking forward to this they obviously care about.
